Craft Ideas You Missed on Facebook this Week!

3 Jul

This past week I have been posting some fun crafting and cooking ideas that I found inspirational on Pinterest.  I shared them on Facebook for all of our fans to see but here they are again all in one post in case you missed them!

Glue gun some flat rocks to a round piece of felt and you have yourself your very own modern hot pad for your kettle.

Turn an old straw holder from a restaurant into a pencil dispenser! Great for classrooms, Sunday schools, or just to have around the house!

Show up to the 4th of July BBQ with this! Blueberries, watermelon and feta cheese! YUM!

Get an old frame from a garage sale, paint it to match your house, take out the glass and backing, add some hooks and BAM! Instant key holder.

Wrap old coffee cans in rope for a very rustic yet modern bathroom toiletry holder.

It’s the Cat in the Hat and he knows a lot about that! Love this snack for a Dr. Seuss birthday party! Get Switch out the white frosting in between the life savers for some blue frosting and you have yourself an Uncle Sam hat for the 4th of July!

Get some molding from the hardware store, paint it to match your room and then screw it to your wall for a fabulous show rack so that you can always stare at your impressive collection of heels.

Get a magnet board or make your own magnet board (if you’re even more creative), and then place magnetic strips on the scrabble pieces so that you can have a constant words with friends battle in your home!

What is the oddest thing you’ve ever received in the mail? How about a shoe! Try sending out your summer pool party invitations on a flip flop this year!!

Another fun 4th of July treat! Cut ice cream sandwiches in half, place on popsicle stick and roll in red, white, and blue sprinkles. So cute!

Don’t have a use for your kid’s old baby or toddler mattress? Turn it into a love seat just by wrapping it in some elegant fabric, tossing on some throw pillows, and placing it atop some storage containers.

Hope you enjoyed the fun projects we found this week and we look forward to hearing from those of you who have or will be trying these great crafts!

Happy 4th of July!!

Mother-Daughter Duo Sews Up a Storm

12 Jun

Welcome The New Rose Ribbon Featured Artists,

Lisa and Harlee Morales,

Get to know them…

1.  What food could you not be paid to eat?…  Harlee would eat anything if it involved getting paid! She is the adventurous one but I on the other hand would never stick any bug in my mouth.  I can’t even watch other people eat bugs, spiders, etc.  I would never last if I was stuck on a deserted island.

2.  How do you feel after making a completed potholder or apron… I am always excited after I finish a potholder or apron.  I cannot wait to show it off and deliver it to my customer. (Lisa)

3.  Are there any other crafts you are interested in learning…I would love to be able to create beautiful cakes,” says Lisa.  “I see all the fun tools in the store and would love to learn how to use them all.”

4.  What are your career goals for when you are older… Harlee loves to act.  She has been taking acting classes for a little over a year.  Her dream is to see herself on TV or in print.

About Lisa and Harlee: Harlee learned how to sew only 8 months ago with her grandmother, and the first thing she made was a potholder. She absolutely loved it, and immediately began thinking about selling her creations.  At the time, Harlee’s mother Lisa was dealing with what they thought was her third cancer recurrence. In 2004 Lisa was diagnosed with thyroid cancer just two months after Harlee was born and had a recurrence in 2006.  After a routine ultrasound, Lisa was told her cancer had returned for the third time.

Harlee began making plans to sell her potholders so she could help pay for her mother’s cancer bills.  After sewing a few potholders she went to a neighbor’s house to start selling.  He bought two and she was so excited.  Luckily, after two months of testing Lisa found out that the doctor had made a mistake, and the initial ultrasound report was read wrong and she was cancer free! Harlee and her mom went on to create a Facebook page called Princess Harlee’s Potholders. All of their family and friends wanted the handmade potholders sewn by such an adorable 8 year old girl.

As orders picked up, Lisa jumped in to help Harlee keep up with potholders.  While her mom started doing the cutting and pinning Harlee did all the sewing.  Today, while Harlee stays busy in school and extra-curricular activities, Lisa has taken over the sewing. Harlee still stays involved in  the design aspect and helps pick out new fabrics and patterns. Princess Harlee’s Potholders currently offers potholders, oven mitts, and aprons for adults and children, but they are working on new products every day.

This kid’s apron is made from 100% cotton fabric in a fun and sassy cupcake. The apron is built with two pockets to hold kitchen utensils. It fits most kid’s sizes at 17″x25″ and makes for a very sweet handmade gift.

This handmade square potholder has a layer of insulated, warm and natural cotton batting to resist heat and a fabric loop for hanging. The potholders are machine quilted, machine washable, and measure 8″x8″.

From Reclaimed Wood to Wood You Wear

28 May

Welcome The New Rose Ribbon Featured Artist,

Lindsay Zuelich,

Get to know her…

What’s one food that you can’t even be paid to eat: Brains! I could pretty much be paid to eat almost any food, but not sure I could go through with eating brains.

What three things would you take with you if you were stranded on an island: All-in-one wind up battery-free flashlight/radio, whittling knife, and chap stick.

If you could do one thing over, what would it be: I’d do more research and self discovery before attending college.

What quote best describes you: “I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.” -Albert Einstein.

About Lindsay:  Lindsay Zuelich grew up working with wood.  Her love for it only grew as she did.  “My art is a labor of love with each cut and sand that I make,” says Zuelich.  Her hand crafted wood line involves accessories for both men and women, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, belt buckles, money clips, and key chains.

Lindsay likes to collect unusual pieces of wood from roadsides to beach tides and each piece is hand picked and cut uniquely as a part of her creative process.  Each portion of wood will only yield a limited amount of pieces to create with, making each item special.

All of Lindsay’s products are Eco-friendly including the reclaimed wood she uses to hand craft her gifts.  No trees are ever harmed in her selective process of acquiring wood, and even the sawdust is utilized in her home garden, making sure nothing goes to waste.

Wood Wrap Bracelet

This beautiful handmade leather suede bracelet is adorned with a polished wood piece and a blue stone and “love” charm.  The bracelet wraps around the wrist about 6 times on average.  This handmade gift is the epitome of nature, peace, and love and is the perfect gift for all the ladies in your life. Get this bracelet from Rose Ribbon for just $25.oo

Wood Money Clip

Hand Cast Pewter You Have to See to Believe

9 Apr

Welcome The New Rose Ribbon Featured Artist,

Greg Krynen,

Get to know him…

Featured Artist, Greg Krynen

If you were stranded on a desert island what would you bring: A date, Leatherman tool, and satellite connection so I could update Rose Ribbon with my new Deserted Island Designs. DID I do that.

If you could have dinner with anyone living or dead: My grandparents, they imparted so much knowledge.

Don’t tell anyone but…one of my pendant designs is in Beads 2012! (Interweave Press) Oh wait, that won’t be a secret soon, hmmmm, I like pink.

Your most recent discovery: Cherry Kool-Aid and Sushi really do not go together.

About Greg: Greg Krynen has been creating artwork for sale since the young age of eleven.   As he grew he built up a wide knowledge of materials, methods, procedures, business operations, promotions, and training techniques, that have all lead him to where he is now.   Currently Greg is a technical trainer at a community college during the day and a crafter/business owner on his off time.

Greg’s styles can best be described as eclectic and whimsical.  He always tries to incorporate a theme in his work, while also making sure they are natural, modern, and genre inspired.  Greg has also been known to paint and draw, but primarily his work is in fine jewelry and small sculptures. “Starting in 4th grade I found a piece of telephone trunk line with so many different colored wires inside. I started making rings and bracelets and selling them to my classmates. Since that time I have been in and out of the crafting business both as a hobby and professionally” adds Krynen.

Today, when Greg isn’t at his day job, he is vigorously working on jewelry specializing in hand cast, lead-free, pewter often using stones that he has cut himself.

For $45 this amazing hand cast necklace can be yours from Rose Ribbon.  This little fairy has fallen asleep among the green sparkling leaves of a tree. This handmade gift is hand cast and polished lead free pewter with green glass beads. 22 inches long with a barrel clasp.

Direct from an excursion to Treasure Island, the land of rare, intriguing and beguiling trinkets and wares, this hammered copper drilled and adorned set of earrings is the perfect handmade gift.  It comes with bits of sea foam ceramic and turquoise beads all combined in a two inch chandelier style silver plated base metal ear wires.  Get these earrings from Rose Ribbon for only $12.
